SHDW.gallery presents CULT, the second solo exhibition by Yozo, opening November 11, 2026 at S01 Gallery in Harajuku, Tokyo.
Fourteen months after his sold-out debut What If (September 2025), which drew swift acquisitions from leading collectors in Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, Yozo returns with fifteen new paintings and, for the first time, sculptural work that carries his universe off the canvas and into physical space.
Yozo emerged from the energetic Harajuku art scene of the mid-2020s and immediately stood apart: immaculate technique, a focused demeanor, and a singular artistic vision. Entirely self-taught, he developed his methods through obsessive study of anime background art and relentless trial and error. Masking, airbrush, and a line so precise it is often mistaken for print.
His paintings channel the emerging post-Shibuya punk movement: early 2000s Tokyo street culture fused with punk rebellion, graffiti, gangs, futuristic grit, and Y2K futurism. Behind the powerful manga motifs lie worn, story-filled details that hint at a vast interconnected universe, as if each painting were a single panel torn from a sprawling near-future epic of rebellion. Each work stands alone, yet together they suggest a world the artist describes as "a melting pot of everything I've ever loved."
The exhibition's title is a declaration. In the artist's words:
"Cult is a pure frenzy prior to mass consumption, a secret faith bound to a singular aesthetic. Once swallowed by the broader market and known to all, true cult status vanishes. I claim this title now, while my expression retains its unadulterated purity and carries the heat to pierce deeply into chosen hearts. What lies here is no crowd-pleasing answer, but a whirlpool of obsession born from pushing a specific aesthetic to its absolute limit."
CULT captures Yozo at a decisive moment: precision and instability held in tension, and a world expanding, panel by panel, and now into three dimensions.
