SHDW.gallery presents CULT, the second solo exhibition by Yozo, opening November 11, 2026 at S01 Gallery in Harajuku, Tokyo.

Fourteen months after his sold-out debut, What If (September 2025), Yozo returns with a new collection of paintings and his first sculptural works, bringing his universe off the canvas and onto the gallery floor.

Yozo emerged from the Harajuku art scene of the mid-2020s with a distinctive visual language and exacting technique. Entirely self-taught, he developed his methods through obsessive study of anime background art and relentless trial and error. His use of masking, airbrush and precise linework produces paintings often mistaken for prints.

His paintings channel the emerging post-Shibuya punk movement, fusing early 2000s Tokyo street culture with punk rebellion, graffiti, gangs and Y2K futurism. Beneath the bold manga imagery, signs of wear and traces of untold stories suggest a vast, interconnected universe. Each painting feels like a panel from a sprawling near-future epic of rebellion: a work that stands alone while revealing part of a world the artist describes as “a melting pot of everything I've ever loved.”

“Cult is a pure frenzy prior to mass consumption, a secret faith bound to a singular aesthetic. Once swallowed by the broader market and known to all, true cult status vanishes. I claim this title now, while my expression retains its unadulterated purity and carries the heat to pierce deeply into chosen hearts. What lies here is no crowd-pleasing answer, but a whirlpool of obsession born from pushing a specific aesthetic to its absolute limit.”
