In the Wave Study series, my goal was to simplify my artistic collage down to just two elements, focusing on the combination of two themes that complement each other and create new meaning. I often find that my collages can become too complex with too many elements. That's why I'm training myself to think in terms of archetypes and express them in the most efficient and elegant way possible.
To create this series, I combined street photography I've taken in Tokyo with video footage of waves I captured off the coast of Cadaqués in Catalonia. By blending these two distinct worlds and vibes, I aimed to create something new and unique. I am pleased with the results and the beauty that emerged from this experiment.
Focusing on simplicity and archetypes is a key part of my artistic practice. Mediterranean waves take on a tumultuous aspect when seen as the psyche of a man taking an escalator up from Roppongi Station. Similarly, a man taking an escalator up from Roppongi Station takes on a supernatural aspect when seen as waves. This is the essence of these studies.
Waves keep crashing, people keep living, always. That is the meaning of these six pieces.
I will be minting these studies on my collection in two rounds. The first round of minting will be on April 25th, and the second round will be on May 2nd. Each time, there will be three artworks available. In order to allow collectors to mint the work during the week leading up to each mint, I will issue reward tokens through various channels such as twitter spaces and discord. My goal is to reward genuine collectors.
These studies are experiments in ideas that will lead to major works to be published on my official art contract at a later date. I hope that these pieces bring you the same sense of tranquility that they bring me.
