Katsuya Terada
Freehand Worlds, Wired Gods

Illustrator, concept artist, manga icon. From Blood: The Last Vampire to Zelda, Virtua Fighter, Monkey King, Rakuda ga Warau, and his iconic monster designs for Kamen Rider. His influence on video game and anime aesthetics is foundational across the 1990s and 2000s.

As a live artist, Terada’s work is famously improvisational. Often compared to calligraphic execution, his compositions are built in real time. Character, architecture, and spatial depth are constructed atop one another with instinctual rhythm. Large compositions form a sophisticated mergence of figure and environment. All elements unfold through a visual system he defines as his visual vocabulary.

This same process defines his studio work. The result is a resonant library of artwork that is instinctual and deeply psychological, reflecting contemporary Japanese culture through Buddhist iconography, erotic manga, pulp illustration, and ukiyo-e composition.

Welcome to the world of Katsuya Terada. We look forward to working with him to present a focused set of editions that assert his position as one of Japan’s most distinctive and important artists.
